L’Aventure du Sucre has a House of New Grove display in its Village Boutik, a fine, contemporary space to showcase New Grove’s prestigious range of rums to full advantage. L’Aventure du Sucre by New Grove’s amber-coloured rums are aged in oak barrels and include Very Special (VS), Very Superior Old Pale (VSOP) and Extra Old (XO). There are also exotic liqueurs flavoured with coffee, vanilla and Rodriguan honey, which are greatly appreciatedOne of the collection’s great successes is a range of rums featuring special sugars (molasses, demerara and golden bakery). There’s nothing like them anywhere else in the world and they were specially developed for L’Aventure du Sucre by the cellar master, Christian Vergier. They and the aged rums (vieux rhums) are particularly popular with visitors to the island.
The tour of the Museum ends with a wonderful opportunity to taste the twelve special sugars and various rums, all produced from cane sugar. The House of New Grove helps visitors to learn more about rum-making with its traditional equipment such as a water distiller or a press enjoying a gleaming new existence. Beautiful sepia photographs take a look back at the various production stages. And rum lovers will certainly not be disappointed, not least because the Village Boutik’s enthusiastic staff are on hand to provide information about the amber nectar during the tasting session.
